According to an exclusive report by Azerbaijan-based Caliber, Iran, whose ‘Axis of Resistance’ that it has been trying to create for many years in Gaza, Lebanon, Yemen and Syria has been collapsed, is preparing to send troops to Armenia to protect its northern borders.
Having been defeated in most of its borders, Iran is trying to secure at least its northern borders. However, it has serious concerns. The EU, US and NATO presence in Armenia, which has become an outpost of the West, poses a threat to Iran.
Unlike Armenia, Azerbaijan pursues an independent foreign policy. There is no military presence on Azerbaijani territory that can be considered a threat to Iran. Azerbaijan does not intend to turn its territory into a testing ground for Western powers.
The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, had reminded to the Iranian National Security Council Secretary Ali Akbar Ahmadian, whom he received on the 8’th of January , that regional problems should be solved by regional states. Aliyev emphasised that it’s unacceptable that the outside powers are drawn to the region.
Ahmadyan, who travelled to Yerevan after his visit to Baku, sternly warned the Pashinyan administration. The Tehran administration demands Armenia to cancel all co-operation with NATO and the Eu.
If Armenia accepts Iran’s terms, there will be ground for military co-operation. Thus, an agreement including the deployment of Iranian troops to Armenia will be signed.
Armenia, which has not signed a peace treaty with Azerbaijan and has not improved its relations with Turkey, is at a critical crossroads. It is eagerly awaited to see what steps Armenia, caught between two fires, will take.
